Sherry-Ann Toomey is a proud Wiradjuri woman and the Director, Sector Engagement at AbSec.

She leads strategic engagement across NSW, building strong partnerships between Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, community, government, and the broader sector to support culturally safe systems, services, and reforms for Aboriginal children, young people, and families.

With over 20 years’ experience across policy, workforce reform, and Aboriginal employment and inclusion, Sherry brings deep expertise in sector leadership, co-design, and system change. She previously held senior roles within the NSW public sector, including leading Closing the Gap implementation and Aboriginal employment strategies. Sherry is committed to strengthening sector capability, amplifying Aboriginal voices, and driving sustainable, community-led outcomes.

Jayne is a proud Baramadagal Dharug woman with kinship connection to Wiradjuri Country.

Jayne joined Junaya’s Board of Directors in December 2024, bringing a diverse range of skills and experience spanning across Federal and State Government and Private Industries. Jayne holds qualifications in law, dispute resolution and sociology.

Jayne worked for a decade as a social justice lawyer across Sydney and in regional and remote Aboriginal communities. Jayne worked on inaugural First Nation’s Strategy for the City of Parramatta when she chaired the First Nations Advisory Committee between 2022 – 2024 and works with the Treaty Council Worldwide, to uplift and empower Indigenous Communities.

Working within the field of Aboriginal Health has allowed me to witness firsthand the strength, resilience, and healing that exists within our communities. It has also shown me the importance of culturally safe services that are designed by our people, for our people. ACCOs continue to play a vital role in empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through self-determination, advocacy, and holistic care.

My current role as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner has strengthened my commitment to improving health outcomes and supporting community in meaningful ways. Every day I am reminded that healthcare is more than treatment it is about connection, trust, understanding, and walking alongside people through all stages of life.

Being a Board Director with Junaya Aboriginal Corporation is something I hold with great pride and responsibility.
